Fleet Week Red Oak Victory Pancake and Waterfront Hike

Sunday, October 13th, 2024 - 9:15am to 1:00pm

Join us Sunday, October 13th for a pancake breakfast and self-guided tour on board the SS Red Oak Victory, the last surviving vessel of 747 ships of all types built at the Richmond Kaiser Shipyards during World War II. The SS Red Oak Victory is also one of the last surviving World War II Victory ships. These ships, along with their cousins the Liberty Ships were built on an emergency basis to carry vital supplies and troops to all theatres of war. The Victory Ships remain today as a symbol of the national resolve and industrial might that won the Second World War. In addition to a pancake breakfast onboard the SS Red Oak Vicory, we will be able to enjoy live music on the deck and do a self-guided tour of the ship and the radio room will be in operation so you can send a radiogram to anyone in the world.

After visiting the SS Red Oak Victory we will take a hike along the Richmond Bay Trail heading out to Ferry Point in Miller Knox Park. This is a beautiful walk with wonderful views of the San Francisco Bay and an opportunity to see a large variety of birds. We will return to the SS Red Oak Victory after our hike.

We will meet at the SS Red Oak Victory (1337 Canal Blvd., Berth 5, Richmond, CA 94804) at 9:45AM and will plan to start the walk at 11AM. Many GPS systems and online map services do not have the address location shown correctly and it is advised that you go to the directions page for accurate information. Directions can be found at https://redoakvictory.us/visiting/directions/

Tickets for the breakfast and self-guided tour need to be purchased in advance at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/fleet-week-pancake-breakfast-on-red-oak-victory-tickets-1003090790557. Please note that we will be doing the self-guided tours so you can select the boarding and breakfast option

The hike is flat and accessible to all abilities including wheelchairs, scooters, strollers, etc., however, the SS Red Oak Victory does have steep ramps and stairs. There is a bike rack inside the security gate at the SS Red Oak Victory for anyone that wants to bike to the ship.

Please email Carey Clausen at careykent@hotmail.com to RSVP for the event so we can coordinate numbers. Carpools are encouraged but not required.
