Dennis Araby - United Farm Workers

After graduating from college in 2001, Jim Araby began his work in the labor movement, starting as an organizer at SEIU and moving on to the California Federation of Teachers, as Political Field Director he worked on two statewide ballot initiatives in 2010 and 2012. For the past five years, Mr. Araby has worked for the UFCW as Executive Director of the Western States Council, the largest private sector union in the state with over 160,000 members in California. In 2015, UFCW was the first union to join the coalition that helped pass MCSRA. MCRSA were the first regulations on medical Cannabis in California to have passed since 2004. Then in 2016, UFCW was the only labor group to endorse Prop. 64. UFCW is the largest union of Cannabis workers in the state of California. Under Mr. Araby’s and UFCW local unions leadership, UFCW has continued to lead in Sacramento on issues of regulation and implementation of Prop. 64, with a primary interest in ensuring that workers are at the forefront of the industry.
